​Jordan earned a Masters’ in Leadership through Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand, and keynoted his leadership philosophy to a Post-Secondary International Network audience of 130 collegiate presidents in Seoul, South Korea; and to a North America-wide audience at the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Honors from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA, and has  furthered his management and communications expertise through York University and Harvard University, where he attained a certificate in crisis communication and mutual gains negotiation titled Dealing with an Angry Public.

Cleland formerly served with distinction as Vice President, Advancement at Olds College. In this role, he led a team of fundraising, government relations, communications, media relations, special event planning and athletics management professionals.

At the 2013 Colleges and Institutes Canada annual conference, Jordan was presented the Gold Medal for Excellence in Leadership, a nation-wide award among Canada’s 131 Colleges and Polytechnic Institutes. Jordan was the first ever recipient of this award by a non-academic, student services leader.

Prior roles were as Manager of Government Relations for the Workers’ Compensation Board (Alberta); and working with public service organizations at all three levels of government (municipal, provincial, federal) through his management consulting role with KPMG Consulting.  

He has considerable experience in the senior levels of government through an eight-year career in the Legislature with the Alberta Government. He was a Ministerial Chief of Staff in portfolio assignments including: Public Works, Supply and Services; Transportation and Utilities; Family and Social Services; and Alberta Learning (K-12 Education and Advanced Education).

Jordan is a passionate and very successful minor sports coach, is married to Jody and they have two girls and one boy:  Lauren 16, Nicholas 14 and Grace 11.
